User interface language
This list shows the languages that Merge can use for its user interface (ribbon, menus, windows, messages, etc.). Changes to this setting take effect the next time Merge is restarted.
Disable merging button tool tips
Check this option to disable the tool tips that are displayed when the mouse cursor is over the merging buttons in file comparison windows.
Because these tool tips are quite large and can obscure the file comparison display, you may wish to disable them after you have seen them several times.
Disable file and folder path tool tips
Check this option to disable the tool tips that are displayed when the cursor is over a file or folder in the folder comparison window results list.
Show group labels in the ribbon
Check this option to show text labels underneath each group of buttons in the ribbon, or uncheck it to hide the labels and save vertical space.
Regardless of this setting, group labels hide automatically when the application window is too narrow to show all the ribbon button text.
Click within scroll bars to set position
When this option is checked, clicking above or below the thumb within a comparison’s scroll bar will jump directly to the corresponding position, and Shift-click will jump up or down by a page. When this option is unchecked, the behaviour is reversed.
Reverse vertical scroll direction
Check this option to invert the scroll direction when vertically scrolling comparisons using a mouse or touchpad.
Reverse horizontal scroll direction
Check this option to invert the scroll direction when horizontally scrolling comparisons using a mouse or touchpad.
Reverse middle-mouse drag-scroll direction
Check this option to invert the scroll direction when drag-scrolling file comparisons using the middle-mouse button.
User-interface theme
Merge offers an optional dark user-interface theme on Windows 10 October 2018 Update (build 1809) and later. On earlier versions of Windows, only a light theme is available and the theme options described below are disabled.
Separate file and folder comparison colour options are stored for the light and dark themes. This makes it possible to customize colours suitably for each theme and switch between them at will.
Due to limitations with the theming support provided by Windows, some elements of the Merge user interface are not themed. These include the Options dialog and the controls in the strips at the bottom of image and binary comparisons. Certain other user interface items, such as Open file dialogs, always follow the current Windows light/dark app mode setting, regardless of how Merge is configured.
Use the Windows light/dark app mode setting
When this option is checked, Merge uses the Settings▸Personalization▸Colors▸Choose your mode setting to select between the light or dark themes. If this setting is set to Custom, the Choose your default app mode sub-setting is followed.
Use a light theme
When this option is checked, Merge will always use a light theme for its user interface, regardless of the Windows setting.
Use a dark theme
When this option is checked, Merge will always use a dark theme for its user interface, regardless of the Windows setting.
